Our area is famous for the Mt. Rushmore monument, and it’s amazing to see time and time again. More than two million visitors come annually to see the monument of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. When family is visiting, be sure to take them to see this historic attraction.
This drive-through park is only eight miles from Rapid City and holds the world’s largest collection of privately owned black bears. The three-mile drive allows visitors to observe black bears, grizzly bears, and other native North American animals. The park is open seasonally, so be sure to check business hours before visiting.
This 244,000-acre park looks like another planet in some areas. The fossil-rich environment is perfect for hiking, camping, and learning about the Native American history in the area. The views and stargazing available at Badlands are among the best of any National Park.
Rapid City still has the small-town feel. Main Street Square is in the heart of downtown Rapid City. Throughout the year, there are many festivals, concerts, and free events for the whole family.
To understand the local history, take the time to visit the Crazy Horse Memorial in Custer, SD. The memorial is open year-round and holds special events throughout the year. Witness history in the making while the world’s largest mountain carving is taking place.
